Healing with the Heart
By Adam Kane

There has always been a quest by humanity to conquer illness and disease. Modern science has done much to help in this area. However, it seems that every time a new cure is found a new illness is discovered as well. In our concern many of us have turned to the possibility that there may be a way to help medicine treat diseases.

Within the "new age movement" there have been many explorations into the healing abilities of our minds and by psychic ability. So called "primitive" races in the past used only these healing techniques with a great deal of success. Diseases that would normally have killed a person were treated by shamans and medicine men. They did not use scalpels and needles; they used their compassion and the patient's mind.

You will now often find many modern scientists and doctors saying that the body has all of the natural tools to conquer any disease, its just a matter of using these tools.

Today we are coming closer and closer to utilizing these natural tools of our body. Many have found that simple meditation has improved their health. Some go much further and train their mind to work against cancer or any other serious ailment. In my personal experience these are possibilities that work. The mind and heart can heal any ailment.
When I refer to the "heart" I am not referring to the muscle which pumps blood through your body. I am referring to the emotional aspect of every person that is able to show love. Love is a very powerful concept, and it is capable of healing.

The most important aspect of this form of healing is hope. Even the worst cases of disease can be conquered by those that maintain hope. The body can survive anything if the person wishes to live. Many shamans of South America undergo a ritual of initiation where they drink a deadly poison and will their body to conquer that poison; most survive despite the odds.

This hope to survive must be genuine and must be both a conscious and unconscious act. Many people are struck with illness and wish to survive out of fear of death, but unconsciously know that it is time to move on. In these cases a healing will not make them physically well. It will, however, make the passing an easy one free of fear.

It is very important to keep in mind that this alternative healing is not a substitute for modern medicine. Modern medicine has come very far over the years and is capable of treating many ailments. When struck with disease we should utilize all of our options to heal ourselves, both natural and medical. The best results that I have seen are when alternative healing is used with modern medicine, not instead of it.

Any person is capable of healing themselves and others. It is simply a matter of realizing how and having the love and compassion to do so. Healing is a very selfless act, it can not be done out of greed or ambition. It must be done as an act of love.
